retard tv

You know something is wrong when Hero starring Jet Li premires on Spike TV. I watched Infernal Affairs again. I have to agree with my brother that it is a much better and more fleshed out than The Departed. I also think that it is because of Christopher Doyle's camerawork that added to the greatness of the film. There were several shots where I just said, "I wish I would have thought of that."

I've been playing a lot of Portable Ops lately. The only part I'm pissed about is that the characters have stamina. The game would have been more fun without it. But other than that, the game is freaking amazing. I'm just hooked on recruiting new members for the future Outer Heaven. I love how the members you recruit influence future tactics and strategy. It's one of the best PSP games to date.

mgs anyone?

Well I finally got out of the house by going out with my cousins to Woodfield mall. It's bizarre being in a mall since I haven't been to one in a LONG while. I spent a bit of my gifts on a used copy (why I didn't buy a new one I do not have the faintest idea) of Metal Gear Acid 2 and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. I can't wait to play because I think my PSP is getting tired of being used as a music player. Plus, I am happy to get a copy of MGA2 after my copy was stolen. It doesn't have the 3D goggles, but I don't care since I read that it was gimmicky anyway.

I finished the first season of Spaced. I really enjoyed the episode with Resident Evil 2 because it brought back so many memories. I loved it when they used the music from the game. And shit, it sounds great after all these years. Not even Resident Evil 4 can compare to that game. It's probably the only game where Daniel played it more than me and mastered it.

I watched Blood Diamond and thought it was a great movie. I thought it was a bit predictable at the end, but it was still enjoyable. Plus, Jennifer Connelly looked great because it seemed like she had a bit of meat. I wish she had more though.

Well Happy New Year and Belated Merry Christmas.

Oh yeah. Daniel, if you are reading this. Get a copy of that Bong Revilla movie so that I can see how horrible it is.

welcome to the lonely

Queer name am I right? But seriously, its a great book. If you don't get that phrase, then you won't get this journal entry. You, my reader, are in much of an update. I'm here stuck at home with my father for the remainder for my vacation. Daniel and Mama are rejoicing throughout the Philippines for their temporary freedom. I really don't care that I'm stuck with Papa, but damn, I do regret not buying a ticket for vacation. It's stupid to think about it now, but the computer as an opportunity cost in its present state just is not worth it. Hell, it's stuck at ISU at the moment. So I pretty much sold out happiness for something that is stuck at school being unused. Damn my stupid impulse self. I'm killing my happy self. All I have here is video games, movies, and porn (btw, Daniel, your collection is weird, lol). It just doesn't fill that void.

Meanwhile, I was thinking of creating a database for my dad's DVD collection, but it wouldn't work as we need a server running on one of the computers. It's not feasible since a computer has to be on 24/7. Waste of money in my opinion. It is a cool idea though. When Daniel or my dad buys a new DVD, all they have to do is queue up the page and fill out the form, then bam, the DVD will be in the database. Daniel wouldn't have to manually update each couple of months. But like I said, it wouldn't work as you need to have a computer on all the time for the database to be accessed.

During my one week here, I did find new things to do. I finally figured out how to convert PAL to NTSC without the video jittering every several minutes. The only problem at the moment seems to be the audio as Besweet needs to add this annoying popping sound to extend the audio from 25fps to 23.976. I also finished Dirge of Cerberus, which is horrible like everybody said, and Yakusa, which was freaking awesome. I've now started on Xenosaga III. The disappointing thing about this RPG is how low budget it got. I feel sorry for the series. It started off really strong, and I really enjoyed the long cutscenes. Now, I'm just treated to fucking lame text with faces attached.

I even started to read the sixth Harry Potter book and I'm almost finished. If there is one thing to say about the book, it is this: the characters are fucking horny as hell. Hermione is jealous of Ron, Harry is having horny dreams about Ginny, Ron is making out with Lavender Brown and having thoughts about another chick. If 99% of all kids that know how to read love reading this series, then all 99% will be sexually active just because they'll be curious on why its nice to "snog" with a girl. J.K Rowling is a sneaky bitch, lol. Of course, I haven't done it myself (with the exception of *ahem*a*pillow*ahem*) and I would love to. All I can do is wish that moment will arrive before I drop dead. But damn, there was this amazingly beautiful asian girl at Food Harbor. I rarely go for asians after viewing Daniel's stash, but this one looked great. You know its funny, I treat girls like they are food. If they look good, they must taste good. If they look bad, they must taste bad. Eh, I need a girlfriend. Oh, btw, Daniel knows this, but did any of you know I have a hair fetish? Soft, luxurious hair just buckles my knees. And yes, that girl had it. All the girls I like have beautiful, gorgeous hair. I guess I'm mental for telling you all this, but I'm quite bored.

For my cousins and Daniel in the Philippines, I'll be sending you a special email. Enjoy the Philippines Daniel. It's just a shame you can't drink. Whoever is the hard drinker in the group, drink a shot of Vodka for me every time you are in a bar. I'll be there in spirit.

lady in the water

In all this movie's absurdity and ridiculousness, I liked it. It got way stupid when the wolf thing killed the guy who was talking about his death in a plot line, but damn it kept me more interested that the Ballad of Ricky Bobby. I thought it was stupid of M. Night to put the cliched "we have a purpose" type of story and spin it in a bedtime story, but eh, it sort of works.

I couldn't stop laughing at the dialogue though. There was this one scene where Cleveland confronts the scrunt while the narf, Story, is telling him how to control the srunt (jeez by saying that sentence sounds crazy) . She is describing what to do to Cleveland in just horrible sentences that make me think, "Does Bryce Dallas Howard know how stupid she sounds?"

Overall, its an okay movie. The director just needs to do something else......and not act in his movies.

** out of four stars.

Oh yeah...

Ricky Bobby 0 out of four stars
Pulse - **** out of four stars (that is a negative four stars)
Miami Vice ** out of four stars (for not completing the plot)
The Host *** out of four stars (rave reviews my ass....I do love that scene though)
Babel * out of four stars (I hate these multiple storyline movies that leave questions unanswered)

Little Children *** out of four stars (I don't care about the sex, but the comedy is funny)
Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix **** out of four stars (its not out yet, but I'm sure to enjoy it; plus the book is fantastic)

bad movies

Well, I'm bored, bored, and yes, very much bored. I've watched some bad to okay movies.

Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Movie wasn't funny at all. Jokes were boring and too long.

Pulse

Stupid.

Miami Vice

The main point of this film was to find the leak. By the end of the film, that question is still unanswered.

I tried to do homework. It was around 3:00pm when I started. For some reason I woke up around 5 with my leg on my glasses. I think I was reading some boring material.

Boring weekend it seems like.

harry potter & the order of the phoenix

I just finished reading the fifth chapter of the seven book series and shit, it is still freaking just as good as the previous ones. I don't know how she does it, but the story just moves so quickly and at an engaging pace. It's difficult to even put the book down. I had 300 pages left when I brought the book back from home and I finished it all today because classes were cancelled.

I can't wait to read the next chapter. Quite odd to say that as a 22 year old eh?

the host, babel & the devil wears prada

Wow. The Host was actually disappointing. I came expecting one of the best monster movies in a while. While it is entertaining, it just doesn't offer enough suspense and tension to go against other movies like it. Jaws and Jurassic Park come to mind. Stephen Spielberg sets up the mood and doesn't show the beasts until half way and towards the end of the movie. The suspense in those movies are intense. In The Host, you already see the creature within 15 minutes of the starting credits which leaves an hour and thirty minutes to fill in. The only moment I loved in the film was when the creature first appeared to the public because the chaos was freaking awesome. Just imagine that happening to you. Fuck. I'm going to run like crazy. I first started to see the lack of focus in this film in the opening where the movie shows how the creature came to be........by dumping gallons of a toxic chemical into the river. Talk about a stupid intro. What I cringed at the most was the unneeded comic relief which was horribly played out by the actors. If the production team took this movie more seriously, then it would have been a great film.

It's an enjoyable movie, but far from the greatness I thought it would be.

*****

As for Babel, I don't know why Daniel hates this film. I thought it was okay, but I'm seriously tired of these "I'm connected to you" type of films. What confused me the most was the Japanese storyline towards the end. The daughter says she saw her mother jump from a balcony, but the dad says she shot herself. And there is no explanation between why they say different things. It's so odd. The Mexican storyline and Moroccan storyline had definite conclusions which I liked to see. There is one thing that confused me. Brad Pitt tells the nanny that she could see her son in his wedding, then a couple of scenes later, he tells her that she can't. WTF? Brad Pitt gives the first phone call in distress, but the viewer doesn't get to see when the second call was made and why Pitt's character seemed angry in the second call.

This is why one storyline is better than several.

******

The Devil Wears Prada

Well, you wouldn't expect me to watch this movie, but Daniel said it was good, so I went ahead and watched. The story is cliche to the max, but goddamn, Anne Hathaway. Yeah. She's hot.

thanksgiving break

It was a pretty enjoyable week, and for some reason, I was so exhausted. On the first weekend, it was still pretty good. I got some gaming in and cleaned out my hdd. Then when I hit the weekdays, goddamn. I woke up around 10/11am because I told myself that I didn't have anything to do. Shooting Daniel's movie took one day and for the next day, we had to return it. But the crazy thing is after we returned it, I went back to sleep until around 4pm. Then I just played the rest of the day. So, it already becomes Thursday, Thanksgiving. We had some great food. Of course, Tita Perla would dish out her trash dishes, the ones where she just throws together ingredients and hopes for the best. I do like her food from time to time, but I have to be so cautious in eating them because it is so sloppily made. I found several bones in her casserole. If she had a restaurant, it would totally be a one star business. So, Thanksgiving ended and Black Friday came. Mama and Papa were out, and I woke up around 11am. I had already finished Bully, and didn't know what to play next since most of the games I have are RPGs. I was bored, period. So I started to do a bit of school work just to ease the boredom.

Later on, I got bored with that and just started to watch regular television. The cable reception has gotten to the point where digital cable seems reasonable. I'm thinking that Comcast is intentionally crapping out the analog signal for people to go on their digital service. I couldn't blame them since digital cable is a godsend. They have dozens and dozens of shows and movies to watch on demand. You can never get bored. Anyways, Heroes was sweet in HD. I was quite pissed to see that the preview from the previous episode just encompassed the final minutes of the show, but quite relieved that things are finally moving. And no Niki. Yay!

As for movies, I saw both Casino Royale and The Fountain during the break. Both are exceptionally well made movies. Casino Royale finally has a Bond that isn't sexually active with STDs and The Fountain, well, that just rocked my brain. I got some of the movie right, but most of my explanations are wrong. But that is the great thing that this movie does that not a lot do, it encourages discussion and thought. My thoughts of the movie is totally different from another person's thoughts of what happened. That is a great thing. It's not like Casino Royale where all people say, "Damn, that was great." Nothing more. But to The Fountain, there is so much more. The ideas of the desperation of losing a loved one, the idea of living forever, realizing that every moment has a meaning.....it all comes up as a topic to think about and discuss with others. It's a love it/hate it film, and I absolutely love it.

now that the craziness is over

Okay. My PS3 fever has passed, and I'm now patient to get one in about a year. Moving along, I just watched one of the best movies of the year:

Children of Men

I didn't know what to expect from this movie. I saw the trailer and said, "Seems like an interesting concept." What I didn't know how pulled in I'll be cautiously thinking, "Shit, don't let go of the girl." This movie is filled with suspense. You don't know what is going to happen next.

As for the characters, Clive Owen plays a cliched man who lost his roots, blah, blah, blah. While his character is cliched, he gives a great performance. His character's life is always at the brink of danger, yet he never breaks down until a critical point in the movie. From the trailer, I thought the girl would not know any English and be like a stupid chick, but she is far from that. She was born into that world not knowing certain things due to the events around them. So, it was interesting to see it from that perspective. Michael Caine plays this delightful hippie. You'll get a laugh from him once or twice. Anyways, I don't want to go into detail on the other charaters. I just want to say that it was wonderfully played out by the actors.

You have great "end of the world" imagery, wonderful acting, wonderful cinematography (I just love the chaotic shots).....it all sums up to a great movie that needs to be seen.

its here

The Sony Playstation 3 is going to be in people's hands once it reaches midnight. Fucking crazy. I don't know why I said that yesterday, but I'm an ass. I want one. I WANT A PS3!!! Dammit. I hate my computer. Screw my computer. I can't even play games on it because my videocard isn't good. Shit!

I want a 360. I want a PS3. I want to play Twilight Princess. Damn. I wish I had another hobby.

the insanity

The PS3 has launched in Japan last week and will launch in two days for North America. It's total chaos. I can't believe people are sitting in the rain & cold just for a system. I applaud them for their courage, but I have to say that they are pretty stupid. They just want to say "I'm an early adopter". Who gives a fuck? I've been reading and listening to a lot of podcasts that say that getting a PS3 at launch is pretty useless since there are not a lot of games that warrant a purchase. Lots of assumed launch games got pushed back like Oblivion and FEAR. So was Motorstorm and several others. It's better to wait and check what it has to offer down the road. Get a Wii or 360. Wii for Zelda and 360 for some great titles like Gears of War or the sleeper hit Viva Pinata.

Don't get me wrong. I want one too, but Sony was so retarded to make a ridiculous promise. Why can't a company make a huge allocation before dropping a release date? Shit. It is not brain science. Make two million systems before making a press event discussing the release date.

******

School was horrible again. It's due to this freaking test. I had those tests where you take it, then right after you hand it in, I'm like "SHIT! That's how I should have answered it." Yeah. Accounting sucks.

******

I just got Empire Strikes Back in 720p. It's the retard edit (not the super retard edit of Return of the Jedi), but goddamn, they look stunning for such old films.

:)

I don't care what you think, but I love the first 30 seconds of the Simpsons trailer (which looks amazing in 1080p by the way). I don't know why, but I think it is due to my love for rabbits. The way it was animated is hilarious.

i'm liberated

I finished Killzone Liberation and it hasn't been a week since I owned it. I was really frustrated with this game, and I really wanted to enjoy it. The frustration was just too much. There are only two boss battles, but they are close to impossible to beat. It took me 5 hours to figure out how to kill out one boss. What I couldn't figure out was that there was another ammo box is the bottom left corner of the screen. Now you are asking yourself, "Why didn't you see it you dumbass?" That is the problem. I couldn't see it because the camera wasn't in my favor. You have this ridiculous isometric camera which doesn't let the player see anything nor can you adjust it. Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror was probably one of the best designed action games on the PSP. You can adjust your camera, switch firing modes, switch weapons, they have cover that actually works. That game was close to perfection. Killzone Liberation has nothing of that. For a game that relies on cover, it does a shitty job since you can still get hit in cover. This game should only be $30 instead of the $40 I paid for it. I even had more fun with Metal Gear Acid.

Anyways, I can't wait to be playing on my Playstation 2 when I get home this Friday. Guitar Hero II, Final Fantasy XII, God Hand, Okami, Bully, etc, just so many games to try out before I go back to school.

As for school, I just spent 5 hours coding css and odbscript. Pretty sweet stuff. I might implement some of the things I learned on my journal.

ps3 sounds really nice

So the Japanese PS3 was recently released with only six days left for the North American launch. It's pretty amazing what news is released after it goes on sale. A japanese website has already dismantled the system. There is a PS2 chipset so no software emulation for PS2 games. The hdd is cool because you can remove the one installed with the system and put your own 2.5" SATA drive. You can hook up a 3.5" drive, but it won't be able to fit. Anyways, I'm getting impressed by the PS3 by the day.

I didn't get a chance to watch a movie this weekend. Nothing to see really. I wanted to check out Stranger Than Fiction, but it was not available at my theatre.

So Daniel called me up and said if I wanted to be in his movie. I said okay. It's about the attack of the deli meats. I really hope Daniel could pull it off because it would be nice to see a movie filmed by an actual camera. Because our camcorder sucks major ass.

wonderful days

The days are getting more stressful by the day. I just received my Economics test back and I got an 84%. I'm quite depressed about it actually because I could have avoided missing two questions if I read it carefully. See, everytime I take a test, I either blank out or rush through it. It doesn't help that the questions look exactly like the study guide questions. It's an 84%, a B, not the good and almighty A. But I was quite pleased with the grade for our presentation, a 97%. I thought I bombed, but it turned out really well.

I just received Killzone Liberation for the PSP and I'm really disappointed with it. It's not the game I thought it would be.

So after playing an hour or so, I went back to studying for my ITK372 class. When I was taking the test, I was blanking out again and it could be for the worse, because I had to guess for two questions. I hope I didn't do that badly.

After the exam, I got to catch a couple of my friends for dinner. See, I don't really eat with friends at all. I'm a loner if you don't already know, so it was a nice change of pace. I didn't talk at all like always which is the norm if you know me. It's nice having a group of friends. It was funny because one of them calls me Silent Bob which I don't mind since I don't talk at all.

Can you believe in a month my brother is going to be in the Philippines? Makes me regret not buying a ticket, lol. My god, I wonder how the hell I'm going to live alone with my dad. That is going to be so awkward.

my brain

I really think something is wrong with me. I don't know if it is due to mary jane from years ago or the alcohol, but I'm really screwed up. Take for example, it is 7:30am in the morning and I'm trying to remember something, and I can't. I'm frustrated for several hours, but then I have class. Then during class, I remember. How the fuck does that happen? I play video games, but later on when I try to explain it, I can't remember any of the character's names or the story. It is the same thing with movies. I can't remember shit. My conversation usually is "Ummm....you know that movie with that guy who kills that woman?" It's so retarded.

Bah, I hope it doesn't happen again. It's just so frustrating. Meanwhile, I'm quite obsessed with the guitar in Sting's "Shape of My Heart". I have no idea why I wanted to hear it. See, its weird. Why would I want to listen to a song I haven't heard since the last time I watched the Leon the Professional which was years ago?

love for my psp

I've finally beaten Metal Gear Acid. I've got to say, at first I didn't like the whole tactics thing because it was so confusing. For the first hour or so, I didn't know how to equip weapons and the manual was pretty limited in how to do it. But after playing for several more hours, I caught on and pretty much went step by step though the levels completing each one. You are supposed to go stealhily through the stages, but without the proper cards, it is pretty much impossible. So, you are forced to pretty much kill everybody which I enjoyed. If there is one thing I dislike about the game, it is how the cards show up randomly and you can't order them. I barely beat Metal Gear because of this. I had wasted my Stinger and sniper cards, and I thought all hope was lost. But behold! A sniper card came up for the final blow. If that card didn't show up, I would have smashed my PSP. The fucking sniper rifle from MGS3 was supposed to do the deed, but the single bullet missed. Fucking shit I tell you. Anyways, it was a fun game. It had a creative story that reminded me of Akira, and Solid Snake still kicks ass in tactics form.

So shortly after beating the game, I bought two games. Metal Gear Acid 2 and Killzone Liberation. I had received my rebate check from Adaptec so money wasn't as issue. I can't wait for these games to arrive.

cavite

I heard some good things about this movie. After seeing the piles of garbage that the Philippines released (I'm looking at you Gagamboy and the holy grail of crap, Agimat), they finally have a good movie that isn't some cheap drama that my aunts and my mom would watch. It's a good movie, but not great. The Philippines isn't there yet.

Cons of Cavite:

  • There was this one moment of the film that was so puzzling. There were subtitles, but the scene was focusing on something else. I think the filmmakers tried to do something new, but I thought it was a horrible decision.
  • The cinematography was quite poor. You get some typical handycam shots, and they used the overused effect of having the camera on the guys face. I don't understand why the camera has to be so shaky. This isn't WWII. Horrid alleyways. I know the director and the writers tried to show the undeveloped side of the Philippines, but goddamn, they could have showed some economic development. It was so depressing to see.
  • The main actor sucks. He can't swear and can't act for shit. The character is fucking retarded.
  • Why the hell are people staring into the camera? This just breaks the suspense of watching this guy go through parts of the Philippines.
  • I didn't like the whole Phone Booth aspect of it.
  • It's fucking letterboxed. Learn how to master your films in widescreen. Goddamn. It's already 2006. You use a digital camera and still can't put a film in actual widescreen on the DVD. Shit. If I can do it with a personal computer, you can do it too.

Yeah, even with all those cons, its still one of the better Filipino movies out there. I would still love to see a Filipino movie that looks like it was made with a big budget. You know, the ones that Americans and the REST OF THE WORLD makes. Iran and Brazil has better looking films. The Philippines can do it too. Or is it because they are lazy?

That is why my brother is going to be an awesome sound designer. He is going to bring that knowledge and shove it into the Philippine movie industry because they clearly still don't know how to do post audio processing (the effect of why 100% of Filipino movies sound like they were filmed in the 70s).

borat

Wow. Just wow. This movie is possibly one of the funniest movies in a decade.

the wait is killing me

I don't know why, but I'm so hyped for the release for the new systems the PS3 and the Wii. The PS3 system looks amazing, the games look amazing, it has Blu-Ray, it is what I fucking what. As for the Wii, I like it only because it has the virtual console and because it can play Gamecube games. I'm like Cartman in the recent South Park episode.

I'm still depressed that I don't have my PS2. I have 12 games on hold if you know what I mean. PC games are good, but they get boring after a while. Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my PSP. I finally understand the mechanics of Metal Gear Acid and will beat the game on the weekend. I can buy Killzone: Liberation now. Oh yeah, I did purchase Capcom Classics Collection Remixed. Awesome collection that will keep you busy when you are bored. I'm currently playing Knights of the Round which is one of my favorite beat-em-ups. I want to get the first PSP collection, but the game list seems a bit weak with the exception of Final Fight. Anyways, I'm still gaming.

Movie-wise, I'm enjoying HD. Once you go HD, you'll never go back to DVDs. Watching Star Wars Episode III in 1080 is just jaw dropping. I'm currently getting Spiderman 2 which from the screenshots look amazing. 1MB/sec is very nice.

saw III

This movie is horrible. My expectations were a bit too high. I loved the first movie and its first sequel. But this movie is just filled with just "wow" moments. No awesome twist, no play on words, no satisfying deaths. Why were the deaths unsatisfying? Because most of them were off screen. An R rated movie with off screen deaths. That makes a lot of sense. Another disappointing feature of the movie is how amazingly boring it is. There was too much backtracking from the previous movies. To me, the backtracking made no sense as it proved no point. It was just like "hmmm, okay". It's sad that this trilogy had to end with a sloppy mess.

* out of four stars.

well, I guess I'm back

I'm starting to get bored here at ISU, so I've decided to pick up writing in my journal again.

Today was disastrous. I had a presentation in my Economics class. Like everything in my life, it went bad. Here is what happened. The computer in the classroom couldn't read the files off my USB stick. Then my Family Clip couldn't play. This led to me being an absolute pussy during my part of the presentation. I couldn't stand that it didn't work. If you know me, you know how much I hate when something doesn't work properly. I hope I don't have to do another one again.

At least I got my quiz back. Another A. So, yes I'm a little happy.

******

I was a bit pissed Wednesday at the IT labs. My partner couldn't go in because he wasn't an IT major, and you have to scan your card to get access. I told him just to go in since they don't even care if you do. I scanned in, then they called my partner back. "Oh you have to scan in." I explained to the fucking idiots that he is not going to use a computer and he will just be helping me with the presentation. "No, you need to be an IT major to use the labs." What the fuck didn't he understand about what I had just said. He wasn't going to use the labs. Mother fucking pieces of shit I tell you. We had to use the College of Business labs which were absolutely craptacular. It makes you wonder where all the money went in the construction of that building. No usb ports. Shit. The main problem I had is that there was only several people in the IT labs. I know because I was there only a couple of minutes ago. Yes, cram us into an overcrowded lab and deny us from using a lab where only a couple of people use. That makes a lot of sense.

See this is what I hate about America. The discrimination. Can't use the IT labs because he isn't an IT person? Fucking retarded.

******

As for the good news today, I had to buy some new headphones and my brother suggested these $13 ones, and from what I've read, they are good. I was skeptical at first because they cost so cheap, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Along with the purchase of that, I bought Capcom Classics Reloaded for the PSP. Then next week I'll be buying Killzone Liberation. Goodbye money. Hello great entertainment.

I love the internet

It's already 1:37am and I'm still up doing homework. It seems like finishing Call of Duty 2 only helped me procrastinate doing my homework, lol.

Well I just wanted to post that I'm now getting hdtv movies, all with the good fortune of google. Can't wait to see Shrek and LotR: Fellowship of the Ring in HD.

the lakehouse

*This mini-review has some spoilers.*

I finally got the chance to watch The Lakehouse starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. The only reason why I'm even viewing this film is to compare it to the Korean original, Il Mare. There is ONE big flaw in The Lakehouse. I don't remember if they have this flaw in Il Mare, but here I go: The movie shows Alex celebrating 2006 which means that he didn't die in the car crash in 2004. Keep in mind this is only 3/4 in the movie. The last act comprises of Kate writing a letter to save Alex. But this is totally useless as you already see Alex celebrating 2006.

This reminded me of the Village where it 3/4 into the movie the point of red roses and the monster are exposed, but then the following scene has the blind girl go into a large patch of red roses.

well I'm finally satisfied

My header for the moment is a picture of my custom made computer. I'm sorry about the the stupid blur effect, but I couldn't keep my hands still. I'm finally satisfied as I put in the new video card: the BFG 7600GT OC. At first, I disliked it because it didn't support some widescreen resolutions, but I soon found out that games are playable even though they are a bit stretched out. It's a great card compared to the ATI X1300 Pro. Thanks to Lawson, I got a great deal on the card too at $120. The peformance of the 7600GT card is quite impressive. I'm able to play F.E.A.R and Oblivion at respectable frame rates. I have no trouble playing Half Life 2/Counter Strike with 16xAF on as well as play Far Cry and Fable at the native resolution of my monitor.

Speaking of which, my widescreen monitor is great. I didn't think 19" would be big and I was wrong. It could be mistaken for a small HDTV. The native resolution is 1400x900 so 720p should look fantastic on it. It does, but 1080p feeds look so much better.

School-wise, it's been a tame beginning. I just took my university writing exam last Friday. In two weeks, I'll know what grade I received. Hopefully I passed. Why hopefully? Because I really think I bombed writing that essay. It was major bullshit. School is going to get harder. I have an exam tomorrow, a quiz Tuesday, a program due Tuesday, another exam next Wednesday and the week after. It's going to be busy for sure.

On other news, I got another hangover last Sunday. It wasn't as bad. I was just throwing up water from all the Jager/Red Bull I drank. It was funny too since I watched parts of the Producers, Moulin Rouge, and almost finished Labryinth before going to bed at 4 in the morning. When I woke up, the hangover hit. I know why I didn't have hangovers before. On my first drunken stupor, I drank lots of water and let the alcohol pass through my body. Now I know, thanks brain!!!

Gaming-wise, Sony really shot themselves in the foot by slashing 75% of all PS3 production. They excluded Europe from the worldwide release which means that it is not worldwide anymore. I really think they should fire the person who thought of a worldwide release. When they announced the release date, Blu-Ray was not even finalized yet so why would you want to try to manufacture millions worldwide? It didn't make sense back then, and it blew up in their face several days ago. Anyways, the games are looking really good. I saw the new MGS4 trailer in HD and the game looks even better than before. Kojima's team is really trying their best in optimizing the graphics engine as I didn't even see any framerate drops unlike before.

As I've said, I'm currently playing Fable, Far Cry, Oblivion, F.E.A.R, & Call of Duty 2 all at once. I know its a big selection, but I've been playing so many console games that I missed out on so many great PC games. Oblivion is probably my top game as it is taking much of my gaming time. People weren't kidding when they said this game was addictive. I hope it won't be like FFXI where I didn't do my homework because I was busy collecting items to acquire my sidejob. Ah, the joys of finally getting a chance to PC game with a great graphics card. I love my computer. Working at R&R was worth it despite that horrible time after drinking that apple cider (ugh....). I'll compile in my next post to see how much my computer cost.

Movie-wise, I watched Slither, Stay Alive, Scary Movie 4, Severance, Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, X-Men: The Last Stand, two seasons of Monk, and a handful of Simpsons Season 8 episodes. They were all great respectively. Scary Movie 4's humor was a bit too forced and not natural at all. That is what makes a comedy funny. It's how natural the jokes comes out. I laughed at the part when the little boy disappears when saying random japanese words. I have no idea why.

But yeah, Mr. Mumbles is sure having a great time with his brand new computer. You know that I love this computer right? How many times does that make it? :)

damn it all to hell

I bought the computer. I just really don't enjoy being limited with this laptop after using my dad's computer and Johnathan's laptop. I need power. I need maximum power.

Here are the specs:

* Hans-G HW191D 19" Wide/5ms/700:1/WXGA 1440x900/DVI/Widescreen LCD Monitor
* Intel D945GPMLKR Socket 775
* Intel Pentium D 840
* CPU fan
* MicroATX case
* 500 watt power supply
* Microsoft XP Pro with SP2 (too much money if you ask me)
* AeroCool SilverBlade II 80mm LED Case Fan
* OCZ XTC Gold 1024MB PC 5400 DDR2 667MHz Gamer Memory

Yeah, I know it is a bit outdated, but it is much faster than my aging, but quite capable laptop.

back in school

Well, I'm back in school with no PS2 and no TV. No, I'm going to make myself go crazy. I still have the precious PSP with me to keep me company. Hopefully I will be more focus and less distracted this year. Yes, even with my PS2 last year, I was still able to crank out great grades (except for that World Geography class). But I really have to focus so that I can mayble get a decent job after I graduate. Eh, hopefully it will work.

I'm still tempted to buy parts for a new PC. This time with the brand spanking new Core 2 chip. But I'm going to buy a PS3 first. From the looks of it, you can hook up the PS3 to a monitor. I'm just assuming from the video of the user interface on IGN. Hopefully it is true.

Well I have to go and start doing homework. It's only 3:36pm but I want to get things done early so that I can play Metal Gear Acid again.

wency the selfish grouch

I've gotten really pissed off for the past couple of days. Maybe it is because I'm a dumbass or maybe it is because I'm leaving for school again which will impede my cash flow. I don't know, but I'm just pissed. I was pissed at my dad yesterday for almost getting into a crash with a RAV4. I was pissed on the day of my birthday because Daniel wanted me to remember how to do that stupid fucking awning (which of course was installed improperly by Benny, the guy who ran away....lol).

I was pissed today because we had to go to mass and I was not tired but sleepy. The mass came close to three hours long because our father was named pastor of the church. The homily was so goddamn boring because the bishop kept on saying the same thing over and over again. What I hate the most is that my time is being spent. I don't have a lot of time to do anything anymore. Look at today. I went to work, came back, took a one hour but disrupted nap, ate dinner, went to mass, and now I'm on the internet getting ready for bed. Don't tell me this is how life is where the only redemption is on the weekends. Now I know how Mama feels.

But I finally realized that I'm getting too selfish. I need to stop my bickering and enjoy life because I won't have one after I finish college.

I looked up my roommates and it seems like I'll be living with two freshman and a sophmore. Dammit. I could have gotten an apartment. I hope they are not fucked up in the head or else this year will be hell.

a close $700 mistake

It was a standard Friday day. I went to work and back, dehydrated and ready to enjoy the weekend. I tracked my order and noticed that it said, "Delivered and left at front door." I instantly ran to the door like the day I had received the N64. The Gamebridge TV was here. I ripped the package open and in several minutes, the installation ended. I was like "Holy shit, holy shit, this is going to be so awesome." Then, all hell broke loose. It seems like my laptop isn't good enough to display the picture properly. There are all these lines and the picture/sound jitters like crazy. Goddamit. Motherfucking goddamit. I tested it on my dad's laptop and it was flawless. Goddamit. Why, oh why, does my laptop have to get the shitty 1.1 connection?

I got so frustrated that I got to thinking that I should buy my computer now. I saw a great deal on Tigerdirect.com of a microATX barebones kit. It included a SLi motherboard (with SATA headers, hell yes), a 3.2 GHz dual core Intel chip, a CPU fan, an Ultra microATX case, and a 500 watt power supply. The great thing is that it would only cost me $300 after rebates. I had to also buy RAM because it wasn't included in the bundle. I was thinking of buying OCZ 667Mhz DDR2 1028MB Gold edition so the system was going to be awesome.

But then, it hit me. Was I willing to sacrifice $700 for a new computer when I could use that money somewhere else? And after an hour or two of debating and talking to myself, the answer would be a definite NO. I have better uses with that money and a new computer can wait. Not all was a waste because when I was searching for good deals for the computer, I came across a product that made my brother jizz till his nose bled: a mini PCI wireless card. We had the port on our laptops so why shouldn't we use it? No need for a PCMCIA wireless card. I'm crossing my fingers for it to work wonderfully when it arrives next week. I also bought a new D-Link USB 2.0 Cardbus card to rival the one I have now. I'm assuming the low bandwidth rates have to do with the card itself since the Gamebridge works wonderfully on my dad's laptop.

Later peeps.

can we hold hands without the moaning?

Temptation is killing me. For several minutes, I contemplated buying a PSP with a 2GB stick and several games. But then, my conscience came into play. "No, you shit. You need to save. Don't you want a new computer? or the PS3?" I replied, "Damn, I'm right. I need to save for those things." So instead, I just bought that Adaptec Gamebridge. I was about to buy from amazon.com when I saw that if I bought from buy.com, I would get a $55 rebate. The Gamebridge will only cost me around $45 rather than $100 on amazon.com. So I went ahead and bought it from there. I hope this will be my last major purchase, so I can start saving for those huge purchases especially towards a better computer.

I'm really bugged by the lack of time I have after work. It's already 12:54am and it seems like I didn't accomplish anything since I got home. I encoded the I Against I footage since I got impatient with Jorge always forgetting to give me the source footage. And that was pretty much it aside from buying stuff online.

After dinner, my brother and I played a couple of rounds on NFL Street. I deleted it after I said that the gameplay was broken (which it is). I absolutely hate it when my defense would crumble or when my brother would use defensive interference to push my player on the ground while I was trying to tackle him. What annoyed me is that it happened EVERY freaking time. I never got a clean tackle. NFL Blitz is a much better game because it has that football arcadish feel while not being dumbned down like in Street. Bring on Blitz. If I lose in that game, then its alright because the mechanics in that game are so much better than in Street.

the fountain

Looks good? Check. Good actor? Check. Beautiful actress? Check. Good director? Check. Will this movie be awesome? Hopefully. I just love those shots where it is upside down then flips when the object goes by. Freaking awesome.

why i'm mental

There are dozens and dozens of reasons why I should be in a mental institution. One of those reasons came around 9pm when we were about to leave for Jorge's apartment to fix a PS2 problem. I felt my backpocket to see if my wallet was there. It wasn't. I searched for 45 mintues before my dad said to check the middle in the van. It wasn't on the floor. It was right here (crude drawing by the way):

It was right in the fucking middle between the middle contraption and the seat. Right where my human eyes couldn't see it. There was no edge that was popping out so that I could have identified it right away. Motherfucker.

"did he just say fuck my wife?"

Well, I pretty much did close to nothing over the weekend. I played Killzone on Friday, loaded 20 games on my hdd on Saturday, watched Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl and played Killzone again on Sunday.

A standard weekend. I am now playing Rise to Honor again for some reason. I can't stand to play another RPG. I'm actually quite scared to sit through 60 or more hours just for one game. Up to 20 is fine, but 60 was pushing it especially because it is summer.

The unrated edition of Harold and Kumar was still pretty funny. I thought it was lame that the only additional scene added was two asian girls flashing to get some mary jane but still funny nonetheless.

So yeah. Nothing new to report. Just spent $500 for my books and the deposit for my housing at ISU. I still have a bit of spending money. Hopefully I'll have enough money for the entire school year. Oh yeah, that brings up something important. Jorge and I were discussing why the hell we are only getting paid 75 hours for two weeks. We come to work at 8am and leave 4:30pm. It doesn't seem that we get paid for lunch so that leaves 8 hours per day. We should be getting paid for 80 hours not 75. It seems like they are deducting us twice. If that is the case, we shouldn't be working until 8:30am or leaving at 4pm. That is why Jorge and I are waiting until this Friday to see what we will get (it better be $500 something). If they still need us, then we have to do something about it. But if they are letting me go, (hopefully Jorge will stay on the job or get something better) I don't give a fuck.

the aliens attack

It's July 4 and it is not as amazing as before. Sure it is the celebration of America's independence from British rule, but after a couple of July 4's, you start to get bored. It was a standard weekend for me since Mama was not here. She was in Canada eating (what I was told) delicious poutine. We had dinner with Papa on Monday that was so awkward because he didn't turn on the television. I laughed a bit at the table because it was so quiet. But once we started to talk about movies, I got relieved. I felt so much tension without Mama at the table. Papa is a good father (plus he bought us Culver's and Gyros), but his presence freaks me out. It is only because he has a short temper. It is like he is going to kill every single person in the world. LOL. Oh well.

I kind of stopped my spending binge and now am trying to focus in saving my money. Sure I still have that Gamebridge to buy so that I don't need a television when I go back to college, but I have nothing to buy other than that. I decided not to buy a PSP or a PS3. I can deal without a PSP and just wait for the PS3 to get some AAA titles. So, for now, my money stays in the bank.

I'm finally on Goblet of Fire. This series is just so addicting to read. I read around 2-4 chapters a day, and it never gets boring. I remember reading Lord of the Rings, and I always kept dozing off. I can't wait to reach the 5th and 6th books.

Well, that's it for now.

why having money is evil

Well, its not, but it does things I have never done in a while. Take for example, just today I bought online postage to pay for shipping the book that I sold, FFXII Collector's Edition from EBGames, Quiznos for Jorge, Daniel, and myself, and ISU Proratioins.....and I still have over $600 in the bank. I have that "where have you been in my life" feeling. It makes me regret for being a bum for so many years. Yes, I don't pay any bills which is probably why I have so much money which, of course, makes me spoiled (somehow).

I'm really frustrated with this lady we are helping with. Jorge and I are helping out a woman move out her belongings because her husband is in the hospital. I do feel sorry for her, but dammit, we can't get anything done without her telling us what to do. I really wanted to finish the basement today, but it only feels half done. I don't know how hard is it to make sure to put stuff in boxes for me to move out. When we got there, everything was cluttered and it seemed like nothing was done from last Friday. At the same time, I feel bad for leaving R&R Textiles because the reason we were hired was to help out at the warehouse. How can we do that when we are wasting time sitting around doing nothing at the house?!! I really hope we get things finished on Friday, but that is saying too much in my opinion. If there is a truck to unload on Friday, then shit, what is going to happen now?

Thursday, June 15, 2006

umm....yeah

I've just been busy working so that is the reason why I haven't been updating much. It's quite odd actually. Once you get a job from 8-5, it seems like you don't have time for anything else. I try to play video games, but I feel so tired by 9pm. All I did today was finish reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and watch the movie version. Books are so much better. You don't know what you are missing if you just watch the movie. No time for video games I guess. I have to sleep by midnight or else I won't get a good night's sleep. I slept around 1am yesterday and goddamn was it a bitch to get up at 7am.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that I work at my mom's place of work, R&R Textiles. Talk about lazy eh? I couldn't find a job by myself so my mom gave me one. Felice worked there for a while and boy, I didn't know what kind of crap she was working with (computer wise). I was shocked to find them still using Pentium 1 computers. Yes, you heard that right. Fucking Pentium 1 with 39MB of system RAM. Shocking isn't it? Working at the warehouse isn't that bad. It's just the unloading that I truly hate. I just despise it because it takes so much out of me. What is worse is that unlike the first day I worked there, I still have to work afterwards. As for the other miscellaneous work, I don't mind it. It just took me a while to strengthen my legs to withstand seven hours of standing up.

Well, I'll just leave it at that for the moment.

hmm...what to say

A lot has been going on lately. I recently released a private conversation, Papa scolded me (which started with my stupidity), we finally unwrapped the awning for our patio, McDonalds' Double Cheeseburgers & McChickens are still awesome (as well as cheap), X-Men: The Last Stand had the most cheesy dialogue yet, finished reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, finished watching Star Wars Episodes 1-3 again, and so on and so on.

My mom is currently searching a job for me since for some reason I can't do it myself. I went to this interview today which Daniel had to skip for but he didn't have to. It was so horrible. The guy did not even seem interested in hiring me. He had these long pauses in between his questions and it is during these pauses where I just wanted to leave. The job calls for networking using preferably Cisco networking products. No programming, no database designing, its goddamn networking which I don't have experience in. I just answered the guy's questions blindly because I really didn't know anything except for setting a network at home. Why is it so difficult to find a decent job? Dammit, I don't want to be a bum again. It makes me want to go back to Springbrook, but I hated that job so much. I tried to make it enjoyable, but the management of that store was horrible.

here we go

I present to you: Divorce in broken English

Please keep in mind that this conversation was supposed to be private, but due to massive hilarity on what was said, I needed to make it funny. No offense to those speaking.

:(

Well, it seems like I'm not a Total Access subscriber on Gamespot or an Insider on IGN. Oh well. It was $50 total for both sites for one year. I guess I don't need all those luxuries that they provided. Who needs HD quality videos, hi-speed servers, or special stuff? Who needs hi-res videos or just crappy articles? I don't.

I'm still playing hours and hours on Tales of Legendia. The story is getting better and better every second. Oh yeah, I bought a wireless adapter for my PS2. Hopefully I can get it working so that I can play online from my basement. It's such a hassle to bring up everything just to play online.

happy birthday

The bloodline's fantastic dentist is celebrating her birthday. Happy Birthday Chrissie!! Can you give me some braces too? :)

back home

Nothing new here. Just came back home a week ago and just been bumming around. On Tuesday, I had to mow two lawns so I was exhausted both later that day and Wednesday. I'm trying to get a job. I'm going to start calling those video game stores to see if they are hiring. I tried looking for the Chase job online, but there is no such thing as data entry. I really wanted to get a Geek Squad job since that is what I enjoy doing, but it doesn't seem like they are hiring. Eh, I'll find something so that I can get out of this house.

When I was mowing my neighbor's lawn, I burned myself on the radiator and now there is a bubble with puss on my arm. I want to pop it, but I might get it infected, so I'll wait until it dries out. On other medical news, I just scheduled an appointment with my physician. He is going to look at my bald spot to see if it is related to something. Because I know I'm balding, but having a bald spot in a unusual spot is weird.

I'm planning to make a video of Tita Tessie's conversation with Michael. I know it is private, but goddamn, it is hilarious stuff. Not to be mean, but broken English is hilarious. I don't know why they just didn't speak Tagalog. I'll be posting it later next week on YouTube.

e3 conferences

After all the hype, I was really disappointed with Sony's conference. Rather than show loads of gameplay from several titles, it was mostly just hi-def PS2 games. The only PS3 game that was played at the conference was Heavenly Sword. Yes, it was awesome, but it is only one game. They didn't have gameplay footage of MGS4 or the must hyped Killzone for the PS3. They did show FFXIII and MGS4 which were freaking impressive. I was shocked to see the real time footage of FFXIII. It is literally amazing. As for the controller, I don't see myself using that tilt function. It is a good thing it is mandatory to gameplay. I'm still getting a PS3. The question is, "When?"

I really enjoyed the Nintendo conference. They showed what Wii is capable of. Sure 90% of the games looked like Gamecube titles, but it looked really fun to use that controller. I still see this as a gimmick. Controlling a character in a FPS seems really painful and movement in all the games seemed a bit slow whether it was that Zelda game or tennis. The people who demoed the games had trouble moving around and controlling the characters felt stiff. Sure you can aim freely, but the movement is so robotic.

As for Microsoft's conference, I found it to be boring. They just showed sequels and their idea of Live anywhere. I'm not interested in Live anywhere since I don't have a good enough PC to play games on or the cell phone to do what they ask. Nothing interesting. Even the Halo 3 teaser was okay, nothing spectacular.

What Sony and Microsoft did wrong was that they didn't live up to their promises. Microsoft is still talking about their online plans and Sony is still showing a bunch of crap. In my opinion, Sony should have shown more gameplay footage and Microsoft should have shown more original content because sequels are not cutting it.

can't freaking wait

6 hours and 8 minutes until the festivities begin. The Sony conference. It's going to be a blast for sure.

Hopefully I get to relax after my exam at 1pm.

Family Guy and American Dad were great. Of course, there are some things I didn't like. I wish they developed upon Stewie's addiction to the TV. That was great that the hole was through Meg's butt. I laughed my ass off when the Poltergeist music played when Peter dug up the skull. What was more funny was when they mimicked that scene where they are whispering. American Dad was funny as well. The retarded kid was a retard because of the medicine he was taking. hahahahahahaha.

This made me laugh for a while:

no mi3 for me this weekend

As much as I wanted to watch Mission Impossible 3 this weekend, I ran out of money. I spent it on Smirnoff Twisters and Dominos pizza yesterday. Oh well. Hopefully I'll get money from books I'm selling back to the store.

I'm going to watch next week not just for the movie......its for this beautiful actress.......oh yeah. And no, its not the one who looks like a rhino.

**I just got a call from the Tribune internship and I didn't get it (no surprise there). Oh well. There are other chances out there.

south park

Is it just me or has South Park just surpassed every cartoon known in existence when it comes to pop culture?

Tonight's episode was just so fun and downright funny. I couldn't stop laughing when I heard the Omen music or when Cartman was changing into those forms.

winavi & trailers

I upgraded my winavi to 7.5 and its doing a great job so far. I've downsampled two HD wmv movies and that new 1080p HD trailer of Superman Returns. The quality is great as I compress it to xvid. Btw, Superman Returns HD sucks balls. It has color banding and the brightness levels are out of balance. Don't they learn?

That new Alone in the Dark trailer just rocks. The music during the last 30 seconds are just amazing. I ripped the track with Virtualdub and edited with Audacity. Bam! I have the awesome track.

As for Superman Returns, this movie will suck. The problem with this movie is that they saw Batman Begins and said, "We'll do the movie just like that". All they did was include emotional scenes mixed with re-hashes of the original movies (which Batman Begins did not have). Saving an airplane? Old news folks. The movie will suck major ass my friends. If they made a movie with Superman battling Doomsday......fuck yeah, but no, they had to remake original movie. Bullshit. At least Batman Begins ran with the origins of Batman without the gayness of Joel Schumacher. The Batman series before Batman Begins never developed on the origins on Batman. They just had a scene with his parents being shot. So that is why Batman Beings was developed. But why Superman? His origin story has already been done on the screen. DO SOMETHING ELSE HOLLYWOOD!!!

new look

I got tired of looking at the Windows Classic theme, so I made some changes.

desktop_01

I just beat Kingdom Hearts II. I didn't get the secret ending like before, but I saw it on You Tube. I wish I would have played this game on Proud so that I can see it clearly, but hey, its only a teaser. Here is a slideshow of the teaser. Pretty sweet quality eh?

relaxed for the moment

Well I finished my cobol program. It was a pretty easy program. What frustrated me was coding the JCL. I spent hours trying to figure out what was wrong. The program wouldn't accept the sorted file, and why, I do not know. I better get started on Program 4 right away.

I also finally figured out what was wrong with my CPU. It kept on spiking every 5 minutes or so. I searched around online to see what is the problem. One person said to look at your CPU processes, and when the spiking happens, I should see the problem. And I did. It was mcsript_inuse.exe. It's a program used by the Mcafee anti-virus software. Crap I tell you. Once I deleted the framework.exe from my services, the problem instantly disappeared. I can now view DVDs without any problems now.

nada

Well, my procrastination is leading me up to a point where I want to explode. Damn. I need to invent something that will instill my dad's fear into my brain so that I'll be able to do homework as early as possible.

I've decided to re-encode all the foreign DVDs I have to xvid. It's just such a waste to put one movie on one dvd. Plus, the quality is still amazing when I convert them to a 2CD size. It's embarassing to see that certain movies weren't done correctly resulting from a video source rather than film.

Well, have to go back to programming. Later.

silent hill

I watched the newly released Silent Hill. It was directed by Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf) and screenplay written by Roger Avery, so initial impressions shouldn't be that bad.

I would first like to tell you that this mini-movie review is a bit biased. I've played the first Silent Hill, Silent Hill 3 & 4. I haven't gotten the chance to play Silent Hill 2 since I didn't have the money at the time. I love the Silent Hill series. They offered a more atmospheric creepiness that Resident Evil couldn't do (but eventually it did with RE4).

In my opinion, Silent Hill is the best video game adaptation to date. It stays true to the video game's spirit while adding some cinema touches. The story is more in tune with the very first Silent Hill game. The music was done by the same person who does the music in the game, Akira Yamaoka. While it was cool to hear songs and tunes from the games, I thought it would have been much better to create new material for the movie. The new music he created sounded awesome, and I wished he had done that for the entire movie. And my god, Pyramid Head. This creature has the coolest scenes ever. I kind of spoiled one of the scenes during Killzone night, but when you see it, you'll be thinking "That was awesome!"

I've read some critics' reviews of the movie and I do respect their opinions. I think it is because of the experience I have with the game that makes watching the movie much more enjoyable.

If you love the games, definitely watch Silent Hill.

nothing to say

I've just been busy procrastinating. Just doing little bits of homework at a time.

South Park wasn't that funny. The only thing I laughed at was when Oprah's vagina pulled out a gun.

I still on my toes whether or not I got the Tribune internship. I'm still going to look for a job just in case it doesn't work out. Hopefully I can get a job at the Geek squad. I absolutely love troubleshooting computer problems and installing software/hardware. I wonder if they are taking applicants.

Another thing I did today was watching "Running Wild". It was alright. The movie as a whole wasn't too interesting in the first place. The premise is just too flat to start from. You get your cliched "over-the-top" detective and your "by-the-books" cop. The characters are too one-dimensional in my opinion. You don't get to see any change except for the change that the "by-the-books" cop becomes 'wild' like the "over-the-top" detective. So yeah, it was alright. What annoyed me the most was Kenji Kawai's soundtrack. It sounds EXACTLY like the music he used for Seven Swords. Come on dude......do something different for your movies.**/****

Watched a bit of "Takeshis". I can't wait to watch the film as a whole. Just watching those couple of minutes was much more enjoyable than "Running Wild".

relieved

I'm so relieved. My programming assignment was not due last Wednesday, but next Wednesday. Whew. Now I can play PS2 again! Yay!!!

I got Tomb Raider: Legend and I'm really impressed. Tomb Raider is back and better.

Well that is it for now.

no soup for you!!!

Well, it looks like I'll be going home this Easter. It took some light persuading from my mom. I can't wait to eat some good food. I'm still sick. The cold passed already, but now I'm left with a cough. Good thing I bought that cough medicine months ago. I'm not using it now as it'll be useless. My body is better off coughing out the virus in my body. I wouldn't want to stop that.

I'll be slacking off a bit lately. I had to skip class on Friday due to my illness. My nose just kept on running and I needed to rest. But today, I have to make sure to be prepared for my presentation tomorrow as well as finish a couple of assignments. I'm still weirded out by this presentation. Why are we doing "extreme" Asia when the movie we are watching is Howl's Moving Castle? I should have just picked the anime topic. At least, there are journals and studies on that. I can't seem to find anything knowledgeable on "extreme" film.

:(

I'm sick. After so many months, hell, maybe even a year, I finally got sick. And its not even my allergies. It's a cold. I have to blame the godforsaken weather. It rains one day, cold the next, hot the day after, rains again, hot again, cold......motherfucker. At least it is not a flu. Or else I won't get anything done school or gaming wise.

I just finished watching "The Intimate". A good film about a to-be bride who, by fate, comes across what seems like a homeless man. I liked the ending because reality had to step in sooner or later.

It was another thrilling episode of 24. I missed it yesterday because I was taking a nap. But goddamn, those last couple of seconds shocked the hell out of me. Who would have thought.

goodbye for the time being

Well it looks like Felice is partying in the Philippines at the moment. Hell, she should have been there months ago. It was a pleasure to have her over here in the states. She did a fantastic job in my room. I promise not to mess it up. I just wished we could have entertained her more......I think the most fun she has ever had was watching the tension filled episodes of 24. Oh well......good thing you made several months worth of hard earned money. You should exchange it to pesos, toss it up in the air, and have someone take a picure.

I'll see you sometime in the future Felice.

usps sucks

The United States Postal Service should fuck a freaking goat. I'm quite pissed at them. The book I sold on half.com was delivered to Ohio instead to California. How the fuck can you screw that up? Ohio is EAST of us, California is WEST of us. Motherfuckers. Now I've lost money on the transaction. Good thing I got delivery confirmation or else I would have ripped the person off.

My advice: use Priority mail or UPS. Parcel mail is horrible service. This is the second time I ever had this happen to me. I did notice that when I sent stuff Priority mail......nothing ever went wrong. Motherfuckers want you to pay more.

what am I doing

Change. Growing up. It's these terms that I have not come to yet. My friend who is a huge role player decided that after all these years, he is going to quit all gaming both pen and paper rpgs and gaming. He wanted to become focused. That is what I should be doing. Focusing on my future. But what is my future? Getting embarassed and beaten at that Chicago Tribune internship interview? Becoming a bum? Getting only minimum wage? It's all my decision and I'm constantly destroying myself. Ever since the beginning of middle school, I never rose above normal to the height of excellence. Sure I went to a class where only the brightest and smartest went. But did it all matter? I had so many opportunities to exceed my peers. In high school there were two. I could have gone on a trip to Hawaii swimming with manatees and studying aquatic life. I could have went to an AP Geometry class. What was my excuse? "My family cannot afford it sir." "I can't take AP Geometry since it conflicts with Band". What am I going to do with band now? If only the conductors here knew what they were doing, then I would still be in band. But I am not. I could have gotten scholarships and gotten into a better school, but I didn't. I was too focused on beating Facility in 007: Goldeneye in record time.

My biggest problem which came to my attention from a mock interview is that I never gave myself credit. I was always modest. I'm making you guys too depressed. It's just my thoughts after all.

When Daniel told me about the interview, I kind of freaked out even though I expected there to be one. I'm totally going to blank out if it ever happens.

gattaca

Suprised that there is a new post? You should be. I have been totally a bum since I came back from spring break. I've just been going to classes, taking the notes, but not doing the homework beforehand. So, it leads to procrastination. I really dislike my database teacher because I have no idea what the hell he is saying. I was about to laugh one time because he would be talking then out of the blue, he would just pause and look down like he passed out or something. Then about 30 seconds later, he would just resume where he left out. Odd.

Instead of homework, I watched the exciting 24 (that broker chick is extremely attractive especially with that accent), Lost, and mainly videogames. I was playing Killzone and Metal Gear Subsistence online as well as play Mark Ecko's Getting Up and Godfather offline. Godfather is a bit unpolished and it could have used probably half a year to clean those rough edges, but its a very fun game. It copies GTA a bit, but there are some interesting side missions. One of them is acting as a hitman which I love doing. The only thing I dislike about this game is that the shooting sucks. It tries to be like Everything or Nothing/From Russia with Love, but its just so pointless to try to get a headshot when it takes so long to get a precise shot. As for Subsistence online, its a very fun game. There are some crazy fun modes. There is this one mode where one player acts as Snake, then the other players have to hunt him down. It's sort of like tag. The player who kills Snake becomes Snake. Great game.

I just finished watching Gattaca which is a great movie. I recommend that you watch it if you haven't already. It's about Vincent who was born out of love. He is always looked down upon compared to gene perfect people. But what puts him above the others is his determination to make his goal of going into space. His brother Anton has perfect genes, but in this one instance, Vincent beats him. Anton can't figure out how his imperfect brother succeeded. Anyways, I don't want to delve into the story any deeper. Just watch it. There was this pretty cool scene where they took a drop of a newborn baby's blood right after he was conceived. They already new when he was going to die, what diseases he will have, etc. But Vicent proves to them all that not everything can't be decided or predicted.

anything new mr.mumbles?

Well not really. I'm quite enjoying my spring break, but without my ps2, its a bit boring. Watching movies is great but only up to a point. I need to play some games.
So whoever has spring break now, enjoy. Sorry about the short post. I'll probably beef up my next one in a week when I go back to school.

plastered

Whew, I was so exhausted yesterday, and I still am. I have to study for my World Film class and the study guide looks like it is going to be tough. I haven't played video games at all this starting this week because I'm so crammed. And I still have to do my E3 entry. I know I probably won't win, but there is always a chance I might. Plus, its one of my dreams to go to E3. Wouldn't it be sweet to be there when they unveil actual gameplay footage of PS3 games? Fuck yeah.

sweet

I finally got the NTSC version of The Promise and goddamn, it looks great (compared to the crappy PAL transfer). Just look at the bitrate!!!

bitrate

I have finally beaten Dawn of Dreams. Freaking awesome game. The last boss was a bit cheesy to defeat and too long, 30-45 minutes just because his health goes down slowly, but it was still great to beat his ass down.

Eh, back to studying.

worst movie of 2006.....

...is, definitely and without a doubt, Ultraviolet. The action scenes were dull, the acting horrendous, the CG is atrocious, and it vomits on itself. I came in the theatre with low expectations of the film as a whole, but at least I thought the action would be serviceable. I was wrong. The action is just cut and paste. Okay, we have an action scene here and here with no connection.....oh yeah, lets have one here just for the heck of it. I hated those scenes where there are tons of guys rushing her then Violet would just wipe them out in one swipe. There are huge gaps in the story, canyon huge. For example, for an ex-mother, how the fuck did she learn to fight like that? Eh, movie sucked. The pacing was off too. They would bombard the first third of the movie with action, slow down to a crawl in the second half, then slowly (very slowly) go back to action. Horrible shit pacing. Don't even get me started on the CG. Let us just say Final Fantasy IX CG looked better and that is on the Playstation. What I hated the most about this film is that soft filter they used.....it fucking irritated me. I don't want to go on with this review. Basically, don't watch this film. It'll rot your brain to a peanut.

I was browsing the web only to find that Funimation is going to bring DBZ Movie 12, The Rebirth of Fusion, to the big screen along with Movie 6, The Return of Cooler. It's actually pretty cool. I never cared for the series, but I do actually enjoy the movies. The series had horrible pacing issues, hernia induced characters, and awful storylines. But the movies, they are fast paced which, in my opinion, is what DBZ is more suited for. The US title absolutely sucks major ass and balls. Fusion Reborn? What the fuck is that? It's like they were thinking of something that needed to be shortened. What's cooler than Dragonball Z Movie 12: The Rebirth of Fusion? Nothing. The new title sucks and so will the English dub. I'll be looking forward to rip the DVD with the japanese dub w/ english subtitles. It does suck that the japanese dub is only in MONO fucking sound. Eh, when will American audiences learn to read subtitles, goddamn motherfuckers. This is why foreign films are not showcased here across the nation only in arthouses. Learn to read you pieces of shit. Subtitles are made short so that you would only have to glance at them. That's why it is not a literal translation most of the time. If you cannot even read shortened versions of the text, you can go fuck yourselves.

two face

For every up, there is a down. Boredom is my up, studying and homework is my down. So now I'm stuck studying for midterms and working on assignments now. No more boring days for me.

Just to keep you guys updated. I'm currently trying to get the DVD9 NTSC version of the Promise. The quality better be awesome or I'm going to get pissed. The PAL version was horrible. It had tons of ads and logo popups throughout the entire film. I hope this is better.

Well cya later.

old blog

My old site apparently still exists. Thank my brother for bringing it up. I thought I deleted this blog, but it doesn't seem like it was erased from the servers. I was just a prick back then spending money like crazy and thinking everything was alright.....if only I had known that everything had a purpose, an effect, a goddamn result.

Enjoy my old site. I know I will.

just black and chaos

So, its been a while since I last posted. My dvd burner is still strong. The only thing odd with it now is that it doesn't recognize all the DVDs I put into it. For example, I put in Timesplitters: Future Perfect and it doesn't recognize the label. I put in Fahrenheit and it recognizes it. I put in Killzone and it can't even detect it. I recently put Shadow of the Colossus on a new disc and when I put it in the drive to check out the disc area, it doesn't recognize it. It's weird, but I guess I have to live with it......the main thing is that it works.

I've just been playing Black and Fight Night Round 3 lately. I can't stand Round 3 online. I have a 0-2 record mostly due to the horrible lag I experience. The game would freeze for a second then go back to being normal. Then sometimes it would take a second to recognize my commands making the online mode, using my school connection, unplayable. The game is a bit disappointing since it offers very new content and differences. As for Black, I think the game is amazing. It's getting mixed reviews, but screw critics. This game is just pure chaos. And this is why I love the game.

As for movies, I haven't had the time to watch anything new. I still have movies I haven't seen yet stashed away on my hard drive so they are there when I have nothing to do.

And lately for music, I'm just enjoying my newly acquired albums. Suikoden III, Shadow of the Colossus, ICO, Kingdom Hearts II (that Dearly Beloved track is just beautiful), and the third Stand Alone Complex album (it has the track I have been looking for). Great tracks in all of them.

So, read on next time. I'll probably blog in a day or two.

Saturday, February 18, 2006

oh yeah

The DVD burner I just purchased is awesome. I've already burnt several DVDs and all of them worked flawlessly. Currently, since it runs through the usb 2.0 port, it maxes out at 6x. It doesn't matter since I burn at 4x anyway. Half of me didn't want to buy this since it does sound like a waste of money, but read this, the day the burner came, my laptop burner died. Quite a coincidence eh? Some things I didn't know is that the Fujifilm discs are actually RitekG03s. Pretty sweet since G05s don't play very well on the PS2. I tested the Taiyo Yuden's I bought and they play perfectly. No skips or jumps whatsoever. I've already re-burned Dirge of Cerberus and Fahrenheit. I tried to burn Jak X again so that I can finish the game, but it seems like the disc is messed up. I think most of the problems lies within the Ritek disc. If you burn movies with this type, they are perfect, but for gaming, its clearly not.

Another cool thing about today is that I know I can fix stuff, it seems cool in my ordinary day. I was lazy to remove stuff off my bed while I was under the covers even though my conscience was telling me that I should put the stuff on the chair. Because of my laziness, I knocked the CD player off the bed and unto the ground shattering a couple pieces off. Most notably was the cover lock. Without that, the player would be useless. And because of my instinct, I fixed the thing. It took a while since I couldn't get the HOLD button to stay still, but it is now working like nothing ever happened.

I also beat Ape Escape 3. If I had time, I would go back and capture all 400, but since I have the awesome Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams to beat, I had to just leave it at that. Ape Escape 3 is a prime example of a game where it doesn't lose it's roots in that games don't need to be difficult in order the player to have a sense of achievement when they beat the game. It requires replay value which this game has loads of. I can't wait for Fight Night Round 3 and Black to come out. They are some of the best games to be released this year. I just love the Fight Night series because of the damage you can do to your opponent. My strategy is to attack their face as much as I can, then to the body to weaken them, then to the face again. By then, their face will be cut and victory will be mine. And Black, well, that game will just rock, period.

Election. This movie is quite good. It's about an election to become the chairman of a triad gang. Power struggles, bribery, loyalty, tradition.....a movie about what a person can do with a)money or b)power. The movie also rides on how a person never forgets what one person says or does. Whatever you do will impact something later in life. And in this case, it brought one of the members to his demise. Great movie.

It came to my attention that most of my posts are quite depressing. From now on, there will be no such posts. So be happy.

screw it

As you can read from the title, I probably did something stupid, but hey its me. I recently bought a dvd burner. There will be good times ahead.

happy valentines day...

...to all you love birds out there. Go and have hours of sexual intercourse, oral pleasures, handjobs, making out........whatever you couples do to be happy. Just have a merry day.

finally

I finally beat Fatal Frame and Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. One was pretty good and the other, like I said before, was painfully boring. Now I can move on to other games like Ape Escape 3 and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. I finally got a chance to put both DVDs for 24 into one iso file and it works perfectly. Killing with Jack Bauer is just so awesome.

As for movies, I didn't watch much. Just the horrible Hide and Seek. What I hate about this movie is how it is tricks the viewer of what is happening until the twist. So fucking retarded.

thoughts

24: The Game is actually a pretty fun game. It's hard to find the game difficult as I just blew through the missions. Since it is only a beta of the game, it might be changed for the final version. The one thing I dislike about the game are the driving sequences. It is just like Enter the Matrix where you have developers that do not know how to make driving sequences. I wish they would be like Everything or Nothing and chose another developer to make the driving parts. It would be amazing to see Criterion do it. What is painful about those parts is that there is no sense of speed and there is loads of rubberband gameplay. Oh well, hopefully they'll fix that for the final version. That would suck if it would stay as it is.

On other news, I've just been watching lots of shrimp, Lost, trying to finish games, and 24. I was shocked to find out that it was Charlie who dragged Sun around. I didn't get the chance to download it, so I missed the part right after he talked about Sun. Oh well.

reporting

Nothing new to report here. Just another day. I'm currently on the verge of getting 24: The Game, Tales of Legendia, Bullet in the Head Fortune Star version, and Police Story HKL version. Hopefully Fight Night Round 3 and Black will be added to that list in a couple of weeks.

Well, there is something to report. It's been depressing here. Everywhere I look I see couples holding hands, making out, or cuddling. I wish I had that. One time I told myself, "I wonder why its so nice to make out.....does the girl's mouth taste good?" Or is it the sensation of touching the tongue that makes it so freaking awesome? This will probably be one of the things I'll never experience.

Eh, maybe in 20 years. Well, there is all this talk of remastering DVDs that I decided to do my own. Here is a screencap for Battle Royale 2. Can you believe this was just a contrast fix?

the weather man

I finally got to watch this delightful, yet depressing, movie about the life of a weatherman (Nicolas Cage) who cannot seem to get things right. He thinks he is supporting his children, but he is doing the opposite. He wants to save his dead marriage, but the problem lies with himself. One of the funny things about the character is that he is obsessed with sex. I had to pause the movie and calm myself because I couldn't stop laughing when his wife (Hope Davis) read his secret. His life seems to balance itself out when he gets to audition to Hello America, a morning news program. At one point, he doesn't know what he wants to accomplish. Does he want to save the things from the past or does he want to pursue his future and leave the past behind him?

It's a great movie where the point is even as a adult, you can still learn new things about adulthood and how to cope with life when times are rough.

yeah...

My lack of posts is due to a personal matter which I won't say here. It is much too private to say. The result is that I regret what I have done and wished that it never happened. But as life went on, the truth had to come out. And it had to land on 24 which was freaking intense btw. I hope my family can get through this ordeal that I have created....a new burden or rather extending one.

On other business, I downloaded around 800 MP3s last night and all of them movie soundtracks. Freaking awesome I tell you. I can now enjoy myself in hours and hours of movie music from King Kong to Robocop.

I'll update this journal again soon.

freaking awesome

Last night was freaking awesome. The crowds were pumped and so was the band. We played a couple of our biggest hits, and the last one........oh boy it caused a riot. Here is a picture of us playing. It was an amazing night. I hope with play with Mozzie next time because we have good relations with them and we have their bass guitarist at the moment. Daniel and I are going to rock to insanity if that ever happens.

nothing new atm

Added a filter to the picture. Makes a bit cooler. Nothing new here. My friend and I looked at an apartment. I thought it was pretty awesome, but my friend didn't like how the apartment was structured. We are thinking of getting another person so that costs would not be so high.

I don't know how to tell my dad if I am able to live in an apartment or not. I could hear his voice and it talks to me, "$$$, $$$$$$$$$$$$. $$$$$$!!!" That's what. It wouldn't cost any much more than in the dorms. But I don't know how he will handle it.

as you may have noticed....

I've been posting a lot lately. That is because there is nothing to do. With the exception of one class, I don't have any assignments to do. My friend, Eldon, and I are thinking of getting an apartment for next year, but I have to ask if my parents will let me. It would have been with my friend, Selena, but I don't think they'll let me room with a girl. They'll get too suspicious. I would like to have more roommates, maybe two girls? *I can dream can't I?*, not only to keep the costs low, but it'll be more fun with more people.

I'm currently trying to get a hold of the uncut version of Battle Royale 2. Yes, as you may know, I hate that movie, but I love everything Battle Royale so I cannot pass up this opportunity to see the uncut version of a movie that sucks.

I missed watching Lost today, so I think I have to, you know, get it the "other" way.

another day

Another day has passed and still no delicious kiss from a deliciously beautiful girl. Oh well. There are more days to come. I can't wait for that day to come. I'm a bit scared that I'm going to suck her face off since I never kissed before.

Getting my hands on Dirge of Cerberus and the 3rd DVD of Subsistence. Can't freaking wait. I recently watched "The Beast and the Beauty." Pretty good film. This blind girl has a boyfriend who tells her that he is good looking. Then she gets a call that she has an eye donor. The guy freaks out because he thinks he is hideous. So he thinks of an excuse to not see her.

Oh shit.....gotta sleep soon.

can I change now?

So, it is my first weekend from vacation and I'm bored as hell. It seems like my affection for video games has faded as I did not play at all today. I just laid in my bed watched a couple of movies and ate McDonalds. Eating McDonalds probably was not a good idea since I have only $75 in my account, but hey I was hungry. As for movies, I finally watched Blood Rain and Hana-Bi. Hana-Bi was great as it showed a detective go out of control in a very calm way. It's creepy. Blood Rain, well, that movie was just confusing. After the viewer finds out the killer, supernatural things start to happen, but with no explanation why. Eh, I've seen better films. I wish I could finish Crying Fist, but I guess it is just one of those movies that the PS2 has problems playing.

Jeez, do I wish I had a girlfriend or more friends. It's so boring here being a loner and all. I rarely hang out. I guess I have a personality disorder or something. If I do hang out, I barely do any talking. It's weird I know. It's like I have nothing to talk about or maybe I'm just thinking that if I say something, it would sound ridiculous. Eh, I'm thinking too much. I should sit back and relax.

another lost episode

I've got to admit. The daughter of the squid scientist was definitely hot stuff. Hot, I tell you. I like the episode. I just wished it would have showed more of something new. Why didn't any of them tell the others that they were there by accident? It would have been the most logical thing to say instead of saying nothing.

Btw, did you guys see the trailer for Click? It stars Adam Sandler and it's an original idea (finally!!!). These are the types of movies that the U.S. should be making. They are entertaining and not blockbuster CG mumbo jumbo. It sounds ridiculous, but hey look at Ghost.

books suck...

...when you costs you exactly $400. I thought I might get at least $20-50 left over. But I was left with nothing. I even had to use some of the money to buy black ink, screw color, I'll just print in grayscale. Eh, hopefully that Geography book I bought comes next week.

Moving on, I got Robot Jox. Pretty weird to watch it in widescreen. Also, I finally got a hold of The Promise and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance soundtracks. Sweet music to my hears. Some like rock, some like rap, but for a weirdo like me, I enjoy movie scores. It's a bit funny to get a gift from my friend. He gave me a T-shirt that says, "Support the fine arts. Shoot a rapper." Quite hilarious.

As for classes, my World Arts: Film class is going to be sweet. We already watched this movie on the first day of class. It was "Pretty Village, Pretty Flame." Awesome film. We'll be watching films I have already watched: City of God, Last Life in the Universe, and Howl's Moving Castle. Pretty sweet I tell you. The only class that disturbs me is Database Processing. I can barely understand the teacher, and we have only four people in the class. I hope he doesn't ask me too many questions since I'm totally blank in that field.

In closing, it was a good thing that I did not buy extra RAM or the House of Flying Daggers soundtrack. My conscience is finally working.
